Seventeen students who have been camping outside the Parliament building since Monday, were arrested last night, The Sun, reported.
They were among 30 individuals who had participated in the #OccupyParliament demonstration in front of the building to call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s resignation.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R. Munusamy confirmed the arrest which took place at about 10.30pm.
"The group comprised of 14 men and three women," said Munusamy.
Prior to the arrest, he said the police had given them 24 hours to disperse, but the order was ignored.
According to Munusamy, the students were arrested under Section 124(B) of the Penal Code for involvement in activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
After being detained, they were taken to the Jinjang police lock-up.
