The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is against the proposal by the Youth Parliament for the government to improve the law on ganja in the country.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said it was not the time yet for the country to be liberal about it.
"We know the wrongs and effects of ganja. It can lead to stronger drugs.
"Even in religion, it is wrong to take ganja. All religions forbid their followers from taking ganja," he told a media conference after the wearing of ranks on senior police officers in Bukit Aman here today.
He was commenting a suggestion by a representative of the Malaysia Youth Parliament for the government to review the ban on ganja because the young people did not regard it as a drug.
Spiritual and Religious Committee chairman of Malaysian Youth Parliament, Muhamad Ridhwan Muhamad Rosli had suggested that the government decriminalise and look at the positive aspects of ganja in line with current trend.
