Police to check engines, fuel tanks of MOF boats

The Royal Malaysian Police will conduct checks on engines and fuel tanks of boats owned by the Marine Operations Force (MOF) and VAT 69 Commando.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman said his quarters would also instruct all states to carry out similar inspections to prevent a recurrence of boat explosions.

"We want the engines and fuel tanks of every boat to be checked as we do not want such incidents to recur," he told reporters at the Seri Manjung Hospital here today.

Earlier, Muhammad Sabtu spent almost an hour visiting four injured policemen following an explosion involving an MOF boat yesterday.

"At the moment, we're awaiting the outcome of investigations by the bomb disposal unit, forensic team and the MOF...we will (meanwhile) monitor the victims," he said.

In the 9.30am incident yesterday, eight members of the VAT 69 Commando were injured when a marine police boat exploded at the Marine Jetty in Kampung Acheh near Manjung during a routine training.

Muhammad Sabtu said the victims were in stable condition and that two of the injured men were treated at the Ipoh Pantai Hospital and Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh. -- BERNAMA
