Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has ordered the relevant authorities to take action in the wake of a series of earthquakes, with the latest one, this morning.



The Malaysian Meteorological Department said the moderate earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.1 occurred 25km southeast of Kota Belud, Sabah.

The epicentre was at 6.2 degrees north and 116.5 degrees east, the department said.

Tremors were felt in Ranau, Kudat, Beluran, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Keningau and Kinabatangan, Sabah.

Yesterday, a weak earthquake with the magnitude of 2.7 occurred at about 16km southeast of Tuaran, Sabah

Sabah has been experienceing several earthquakes since last week. On June 5, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Sabah, with tremors felt in many places and sending rocks and boulders crashing down Mount Kinabalu.

Eighteen people, including four mountain guides were killed in the incident.Ten of them were from Singapore, six from Malaysia, one from Japan and one from China.
