Selangor police target 100,000 people involved in VSP

State police Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief, Datuk K. Kumaran said so far, they had recorded 30,000 volunteers in the programme since the VSP application was launched on March 25, this year.

"This application is the medium for the public to report on crime activities or incidents in the form of photos or videos straight to police.

"We are confident the target can be achieved before the year-end due to cooperation between the police and community, besides having more dialogues with the community so as to create greater public awareness of the VSP programme."

Kumaran said this to reporters after a walkabout and friendly interaction with traders, shoppers and visitors at Klang's 'Little India' in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration. Also present was Klang South district police chief, ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli.

Kumaran said the VSP application could be uploaded to a smartphone for free through Google Play and App Store.

"Members of the public, however, need to register as a VSP member first before starting to share information and they can use pseudonyms so as not to reveal their identity.

"Selangor police very much welcome public involvement in this programme through their smartphone. Hopefully, with their participation, crime rates in the state can be reduced," he added.
