Shalwati consented for her children to be brought home, said Deputy Home Minister

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin said he had obtained permission from Shalwati Norshal to bring back her four children to Malaysia.

Shalwati signed a consent letter allowing her children to be brought home when met by Hamzah at a prison in Stockholm, Sweden.

When asked by Hamzah on her children’s schooling plans in Malaysia, Shalwati had requested for them to be placed in national schools.

"She requested that her children be placed at national schools. She does not want to send the children to international schools because of the different culture,” said Hamzah when met by reporters at the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s residence at Jalan Langgak here on Saturday.

Hamzah said he has also been instructed by the prime minister to return to Sweden to resolve the case.

Meanwhile, counselling would be provided to the children to overcome the trauma and physical stress faced by the children by the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Women, Family and Community Development Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur said this would be handled by JKM officers in Kelantan.

"We were made to understand that the children will be taken to their mother's hometown in Kelantan. So, the counselling will be handled by our officers there," she told reporters at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, here on Saturday.

Dr Noorul Ainur also said JKM would also monitor the children's condition while being under the care of their aunt, Shaleena Norshal, 42.

Dr Noorul Ainur was there to attend the meeting between Najib, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and the four children who arrived here from Stockholm, early Saturday.
