Siblings rescued by police after kidnapping incident

Police have rescued two siblings, aged 12 and 14, who were kidnapped on January 11 at Taman Klang Jaya near here by two men, one of them a Myanmar national who is also a former workmate of the victims' mother.

Selangor CID chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said police received a report from the victims' 44-year-old mother at 9pm the same day when she failed to locate her daughters after being alerted by members of the public who witnessed the incident in front of a laundry shop near a factory.

"On Jan 12 at 7.30pm, police managed to detain a Myanmar man aged 21 at the overhead pedestrian bridge in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Kuala Lumpur," he told a media conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters, media centre here today.

Mohd Adnan said the suspect led police 20 minutes later to the missing victims who were confined in a hotel room in Jalan Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.

He said the victims were safe and had been sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital in Klang for further examination.

The Myanmar suspect had been remanded under the Immigration Act until Jan 26 as he did not possess a valid identification document, and to facilitate investigations into the motive of the incident, he said, adding that police were also hot on the heels of the other suspect, he said.

On whether the kidnappers had demanded a ransom, he said they had not, as they probably had no time to do so because of prompt action by police with information and cooperation of the public.
