KL City Hall (DBKL) has introduced a standardised parking rate in the city starting today.
Divided into four categories, the standardisation of the parking rates are divided into two zones, namely planned city centre and areas outside the planned city centre.
Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said this will lessen the burden of city folks currently being burdened with high parking rates.
“Previously, I made a promise to standardise the parking areas in Kuala Lumpur into planned city centre and areas outside of the planned city centre so that parking operators will not charge so high,” Nong Chik said.
The four categories are indoor, open spaces, hotels and others.
"Ceiling rates for hourly charges in the planned city centre is RM3 to RM6 for the first hour (indoor), RM3 to RM5 (open), RM4 to RM8 (hotel) and RM3 to RM6 (other categories). Charges for each subsequent hour is between RM1 and RM2 for all categories, while parking is free for the first 15 minutes in any category," he explained.
For operators outside of the planned city centre, the ceiling rate has been fixed between RM5 to RM10, applicable to a maximum payment of not more than RM20.
As for motorcyclists, the rate is between RM1 to RM2 per entry.
Also, cars parked below 15 minutes at all areas and categories will not be charged.
The planned city centre is along Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Sungai Besi, and Jalan Mahameru.
