The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) will discuss the restructuring of the Terengganu water industry with the state government. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the restructuring would benefit the federal government and the state government without compromising the needs of the people. "Kuala Terengganu and Marang will face a water crisis by end 2015 if work to upgrade or build new treatment plants are done to meet high population growth due to rapid development of housing and industrial areas," he said after visiting Kepong 2 treatment plant operated by Syarikat Air Terengganu Sdn Bhd (Satu) here, today. Meanwhile, Satu administration and corporate manager Rosli Latif said they have implemented several plans action for the short term to address the water supply problem. "We have managed to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) from 44.3 percent in 2010 to 33.8 percent in August this year. "For residents of Kuala Nerus district, Satu channels six million litres of water daily from Setiu. "We also installed new pipes from Hulu Terengganu plant to meet the needs of Kampung Batu Hampar residents." Kuala Terengganu and Marang districts have 125,000 accounts of users who get their supply of treated water from Kepong 1, Kepong 2 and Losong treatment plants.
