UMNO branch chief faints at voting centre

A Setiu Umno division delegate was not able to cast his vote at the party divisional and national elections when he fainted at the voting centre at SMK Saujana Setiu here about 11.15 this morning.

Confirming the incident, Setiu division permanent chairman Mohd Ashari Haji Awang said the delegate Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, 56, who is Gong Ubi Keling branch chief, had complained about feeling unwell and suddenly fainted when it was his turn to vote.

Wan Hassan, a head master and committee member of the Setiu Umno division, was rushed by ambulance to the Setiu District Hospital in Bandar Permaisuri, he said. He said Wan Hassan was later transferred to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

The Setiu delegates meeting is expected to be tense with the selection of 20 committee members by 1,300 delegates and the tussle for division chief post between incumbent Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee and party veteran Datuk Mamat Ghazali Abdul Rahman, who is the former Langkap assemblyman.
