Only people's mandate can ensure a stable government - Mohamad Hasan

The people's mandate gained through the elections is the best way to ensure the stability of a government with a comfortable majority.

UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the election would also ensure that the government could carry out the development of the country without any threats.

He had previously suggested that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government call a general election (GE) to enable the political instability in the country to be addressed.

“That is what I proposed (the dissolution of Parliament), after we (the government) and the people of Malaysia succeeded in stemming COVID-19.

"We were pondering of getting the mandate from the people, let the people determine the government which enjoys a comfortable majority. What’s important is the government could focus fully on building the country,” he said.

Mohamad said this in response to rumours of the establishment of a new political party that was to be chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as listing several ministers and leaders of other political parties.

The establishment of the National United Reform Party that has gone viral on social media was alleged to replace the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

According to Mohamad, although it was not necessary to believe the rumours, he at the same time reminded the MPs to respect the mandate of the people given to them.

“Do not do as you please, we need to respect the mandate of the people. That is why I say the government needs to get a big mandate because a government with a very thin majority is always under threat,” he said when met at the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Sharim Md Zain's campaign in Chini on Saturday.
