The Opposition is resorting to making personal attacks on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after failing to topple the government despite numerous attempts, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, said the dirty tactic was being used after they failed to topple Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 13th general election (GE13).
"They are attacking the prime minister via 1MDB although it was decided he was not involved, the purchase of the executive jet, his wife's ring and the RM2.6 billion Arab donation.
"They are using several issues to influence the people to hate the government and BN leaders in the hope they can win the 14th general election," he told reporters after opening Temerloh UMNO branches'annual meetings here today.
He said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was also caught up in the politics of the Opposition for joining them in making the 'Mahathir Declaration.'
Ismail Sabri said Dr Mahathir's action in befriending the Opposition was unfortunate as he was against the policies pursued by them.
"The people are fed up with the Opposition who are finding fault with the prime minister despite the many good deeds he has done for the people."
He said Malaysians should not to be influenced by the Opposition who deliberately raised issues to destroy the unity of people of various races in this country.
