Penang state government will file an objection over the Election Commission (EC) electoral redelineation exercise, chief minister Lim Guan Eng said today.
He said the state government will file the objection before October 14, 2016 together with local authorities and component parties from Pakatan Harapan.
"We have to file an objection and may consider filing it in court. For Penang, it seems unfair but the impact is probably not as big as other states," he said after handing over a contribution of RM100,000 to Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Mak Mandi, Tingkat Mak Mandin here today.
Lim, who is also Bagan MP, said the redelineation exercise was unfair to Penang as it creates imbalance in some of its State Legislative seats.
He was commenting on Pakatan Harapan secretariat's call for the state governments of Selangor and Penang to reject EC's plan.
On Sept 14, the EC announced a plan to carry out a review of the redelineation of electoral boundaries for parliamentary and state seats in the peninsula and Sabah beginning Thursday.
EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said the review would be conducted based on the provisions of Clause (2) Article 113 of the Federal Constitution and amendments to Clause (2) Article 14 of the Sabah State Constitution, which was gazetted on Aug 18.
However, the EC has dismissed allegations that the redelineation of electoral boundaries in peninsular Malaysia and Sabah favoured certain quarters.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the EC discharged its duties and responsibilities as provided for in the Federal Constitution.
