The Selangor state government today submitted a protest to the proposed redelineation of constituencies by the Election Commission (EC).
In a statement, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the protest note was submitted by his political secretary, Shuhaimi Shafiei at Selangor Election Commission office here, this afternoon.
The protest was based on the power of the state government under Schedule 13 of the Federal Constitution, Part II, Section 5.
"The proposed redelineation by EC is inconsistent with the Federal Constitution, a failure of justice, failure to provide full information and failure to give inadequate time to study the impact."
Azmin urged the EC to study the protest submitted to ensure its integrity and to be consistent with the Federal Constitution.
He said the Selangor state government was ready to take legal action to defend the Federal Constitution and the democratic rights of the voters.
