MMA: Amanda Nunes stuns Miesha Tate to claim UFC world title

BRAZILIAN Amanda Nunes stunned Miesha Tate from the United State at UFC 200 to win the women's bantamweight world title in a mixed martial arts bout in Las Vegas, BBC Sport reported Sunday.

Round one of the main event began with the two female warriors trading takedowns before Nunes finally discovering her range with powerful strikes on the feet, but was responded by near takedown from Tate.

Tate's second attempt for a takedown was met by a knee to the face from Nunes, who then proceeded with more strikes to the face - hurting Tate badly.

The damaging strikes put the champion to her knees, providing an great opening for Nunes to move for the kill.

Nunes landed a few more strikes to the American before finishing it off with a rear naked choke in the third minute to claim victory and become the new bantamweight world champion.

The title was won by Tate in March this year after she defeated Holly Holm at UFC 196, who grabbed the title from Ronda Rousey, the world’s most feared female prizefighter, in November 2015.
