The Pujut state seat has been vacant since February when its incumbent, Dr Ting Tiong Choon of DAP was disqualified for having dual nationality, namely Australian and Malaysian citizenship.

This is understandable as the newbie election candidate apparently did not want to do anything in a rush.

The Federal government will ensure that the construction of Phase Two of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway from Pujut to Lawas is continued, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will file a notice of appeal against the Kuching High Court's ruling that the disqualification of Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assembyman.

The high court's decision should be examined more seriously to ensure there was a clear separation of powers in a democratic system.

Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government respected the decision of the High Court but would appeal to the Federal Court.

"The court has decided and we respect its decision," he said in a statement here.

In a statement today, he said, EC would take further action in line with the court's decision.

"I have not done anything wrong and have not wronged the people of Pujut... and I slept well every night before the proceeding today," he told reporters outside the court here today.

Dr Ting Tiong Choon remains as Pujut assemblyman, Kuching High Court ruled today.
