Consider This: The End of AUKU, Or Just a Rebrand?

The government has recently promised to abolish the Universities & University Colleges Act 1971, better known by its BM acronym, AUKU. However repeal is only the first step, with a new higher education framework now expected to take its place. So will abolishing AUKU truly make Malaysian public universities freer, or could the same culture of control simply survive under a new law? On this episode of #ConsiderThis Melisa Idris speaks with Zaharom Nain, Adjunct Professor at Taylor's University, who was on the 2018-2019 technical committee to study the repeal of AUKU. He is joined by Alyaah Hani, President of Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia.
