No political motive in proposed Prevention of Terrorism Act - Najib

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today gave the assurance that there is no political motive in the proposed Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

He said the implementation of the new law would be administered by a competent body and not by members of the administration.

The objective was to prevent the proliferation of acts of terrorism to the extent of threatening national security, he said at the launch of the 208th Police Day at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here.

"Prevention is better than cure; that's what the government subscribes to in checking the threat of terrorism.

"We have to act first to prevent terrorism because the consequences can be disastrous if we are late in doing so," he said.
