Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wishes Happy Ramadan al-Mubarak to all Muslims in Malaysia who would start fasting tomorrow.
The prime minister also prayed for the country to continue to be showered with blessings of Allah during the holy month of Ramadan.
"Alhamdulillah (All praise be to Allah), the most awaited month is finally here upon us. The arrival of the Ramadan al-Mubarak is indeed spiritually meaningful for all Muslims in Malaysia and all over the world," he said in his Ramadan message posted on his blog najibrazak.com, as well as his Twitter and Facebook page tonight.
He said Ramadan is special because it was during Ramadan that the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad as a guidance for Muslims, and it is also the month of opportunity for all Muslims to gain great rewards by fasting, performing Terawih prayers at night, being patient and steadfast for 30 days.
He said, the nightly feasts during the breaking of fast had also become a tradition celebrated among the multi-racial society in Malaysia.
"Each day, our relationship is strengthened with various activities that can inculcate the spirit of solidarity. Mutual respect among people of different religions and cultures has been something that we are known for.
"May this Ramadan enable us to attain an even higher level of faith as narrated in Surat Al-Baqarah, Verse 183: ''O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous''," he said.
The Keeper of the Rulers'' Seal Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad announced today that the date for the start of Ramadan fasting in Malaysia has been fixed for tomorrow (May 27) as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after receiving the consent of the Malay rulers. - BERNAMA
