Police are in the midst of identifying Anonymous Malaysia
KHALID: We have begun investigations into this Anonymous Malaysia group and we are taking their threats seriously.
The police are ready to face any possible cyber threat from a group that called themselves Anonymous Malaysia who had threatened to launch a cyber warfare on government agencies on August 29 and 30.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said, the police views this threat seriously and were now in the midst of indentifying the attackers who may have links with international cyber criminals.
He said appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
“We have begun investigations into Anonymous Malaysia and we are taking their threats seriously.
“We have also taking appropriate measures to secure our website and all our applications. We are in the midst of identifying those involved in Anonymous Malaysia,” he told reporters after a police function on Thursday.
Commenting on the possibility that the cyber attacks were linked to the Bersih 4.0 demonstrations, Khalid said, nothing has yet been confirmed.
On Monday, Anonymous Malaysia had declared an internet war against the Malaysian government and threatened to cripple Malaysian web portals through an eight-minute video which had been uploaded on YouTube.
The attack is expected to take place on August 29 and 30 and was allegedly carried out to support the rally planned during those days.
Bersih 2.0 however have denied involvement with the hacker group.
Its chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah said, the hacker group have misued Bersih 4's campaign in order to further their own agenda.
