Survey on GST's impact on people by Merdeka Center soon
Independent pollster Merdeka Center will be conducting a survey on the Goods and Services tax (GST) which was launched on April 1.
Independent pollster Merdeka Center will be conducting a survey on the Goods and Services tax (GST) which was launched on April 1.
Merdeka Center Executive Director Ibrahim Suffian said the survey is to identify people’s perspective on the implementation of GST.
“We need to know if GST is burdening, what is GST’s effect on them and so on so forth,” he told Astro AWANI today.
Ibrahim said the survey will be launched on the portal in two weeks’ time.
“We target registered voters. The survey’s result will be known early May, about a month after the GST’s implementation,” he added.
The survey can be accessed at http://www.merdeka.org/
The implementation of the GST at six per cent effective April 1 aims to replace the service sales tax.
Many quarters particularly those from lower and middle-group income had expressed their displeasures over the implementation.
Recently, a surveillance conducted by Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association found that most goods are taxed and their prices increased between 20 and 30 per cent after the introduction of GST.
‘Kita Lawan’ secretariat -- made up of politicians, NGOs, professionals and universities students will hold an anti GST rally on May 1. The rally aims to achieve the involvement of one million Malaysians nationwide.
