The green card that was claimed to be a temporary resident identity card ( MyKAS) in the social media was found to not fit the physical specification of MyKAS cards issued by the National Registration Department (JPN)

JPN director-general Datuk Mohd Yazid Ramli said upon close observation of the MyKAS card made viral by irresponsible parties, it was found that it was a screenshot of MyKAS sample card that was made available on its website in 2012.

"However, the sample display was erased by JPN following similar claims made in that year. It was also believed that the sample had been edited by irresponsible parties who wished to tarnish the JPN's image," he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Yazid explained that the genuine MyKAS card was fully-green in colour, and stated details such as temporary residency, the non-citizenship status as well as the card holder's picture and the expiry date of the green card.

Commenting on the claims of three non-Malaysian citizens that they were qualified to vote although having only MyKAS cards, he debunked the claims following a check on JPN records which revealed that the individuals had actually been awarded Malaysian citizenship between 2004 and 2007, and were qualified to vote.

He urged the public to not be easily swayed by false claims that were specially made on the social media to tarnish JPN's image and confuse the public. - BERNAMA
