'Cold' relationship between PKR and Amanah causes hiccups to Pakatan 2.0

After DAP announced that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had officially ceased to exist, a new opposition coalition that wants to be known as Pakatan 2.0, with DAP, PKR and another new party as its members will be formed.

The new party set to join Pakatan 2.0 is formed by PAS leaders – who were defeated at the 61st election, held earlier this year in Kuala Selangor.

The leaders at first formed Gabungan Harapan Baru (Harapan Baru), a non-governmental organisation, but later formed a political party known as Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

As such, Pakatan 2.0 will see tahaluf siyasi between Amanah, DAP and PKR.

The rakyat especially opposition supporters were promised that this new coalition will continue championing PR’s causes.

However, the promise may just be a fantasy than a reality.

The hope for Amanah and DAP’ to see this coalition run smoothly and get the full support of PKR, may not be as easy as it seemed.

Even before Amanah was formed, there are many PKR members who opposed it because it will split votes, or in other words, benefit Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO.

It was generally known that while Amanah and DAP are not very comfortable with PAS, PKR can work together with every faction.

The ‘cold’ relationship between PKR and Amanah was especially evident when the party’s president Mohamad Sabu visited Sarawak yesterday but Sarawak PKR leaders were not present.

Apart from that, PAS Kelantan also seem to boycott all Amanah’s programme in the state that was held by PAS since 1990.

Even if there were Kelantan PKR leaders who attended the programme or ceramah organised by Amanah, it was on their personal capacity and not representatives of the party.

What is happening now to some extent disrupts the smooth flow of the new coalition.

Will only DAP and Amanah fight for Pakatan 2.0’s causes and leave PKR and PAS? Will the current development of PKR make their leaders make their way to join Amanah?

Only time will tell.
