The National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, which was closed for repairs since October last year, is expected to reopen for action next month.
Stadium Malaysia Board (PSM) chairman, Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman said the stadium was closed to ensure a new turf was laid and the new grass allowed to grow without any interruption.
He said they had also sought the expertise of a lecturer from the Agriculture Faculty of Universiti Putra Malaysia, Prof Dr Abdul Shukor Juraimi, to determine the condition of the grass at the stadium.
"By using the 'grow light' technology that was imported from Holland and installed around the stadium, functioning for 16 hours a day, the condition of the field has improved," he told reporters at the sponsorship pledge for the Asean Football Federation (AFF Futsal) futsal tournament in Wisma FAM Thursday.
Rozabil said the 'grow light' technology uses LED lights to overcome the lack of lighting inside the stadium while huge fans are also used to ensure there was enough air supply for the grass to grow well.
He said once the stadium was reopened, only football activities would be allowed to protect the field from damage when used for other purposes.
