Around the world, anxiety is rising. Incomes are stagnant, jobs are unstable, the cost of living keeps climbing. And into this moment of instability and uncertainty, comes an idea that’s been dismissed, debated, and now increasingly taken seriously: a basic income for all. On this episode of #ConsiderThis Melisa Idris speaks with Professor Guy Standing, labour economist, author, and founding member of the Basic Income Earth Network, an NGO that campaigns for basic income for all as a right. Professor Standing was an economic adviser in the Prime Minister’s Department in Malaysia in the 1980s, and has worked as a social and labour policy adviser with various other governments around the world, including the US and South Africa.
